With the excitement of the Overcomers, Inc. Book, I wanted to post an interview with one of the authors.  I do hope you enjoy reading the following as much as I did!

1. How did you get started writing?

I love to read…to teach…to teach writing. So, I guess it was bound to happen that I became a writer myself.

2. What do you do when you are not writing?

I am a mentor to college students and publish an inspirational newsletter called, “Time-Tested Tips to Help You Love College.” I also teach business writing as an executive trainer. Currently I am co-producer of an online resume workshop, ResumeRoom.com.

3. What would readers like to know about you?

I am a life-long learner and mightily enthusiastic about taking on new challenges, ones that inspire me.

4. What inspired you to be a contributing author in Overcomers, Inc.,

I realized that my own life transformed as the result of a medical roadblock that I had to overcome. It dawned on me that others might benefit from my story. If I touch even one soul in need of inspiration, then my decision to participate will have been well worth it.

5. Why is the topic of Overcoming important to you?

I have come to realize that our greatest challenges in life can actually result in positive transformations that we wouldn’t otherwise experience. The word bittersweet comes to mind. But it helps to have the right mindset in order to glean a positive takeaway from any challenge to be overcome.

6.  Why are you specially qualified to write about this topic?

Personal experience is where my contribution originates. Experience is the best teacher. While the adversity I overcame will differ from most of the readers’ personal situations, I hope that the theme of the lesson I learned will resonate with many.

7.  How many books have you written? One…nearly completed.

8.  What are the titles of your books and what genres are they?

My first book, How To Be U, is due in book stores this spring. It’s an inspirational college guidance book that shows girls how to step into their brilliance in college…and in life.

9.  How do you manage to keep yourself focused and on track when you’re writing a book?

Inspiration to get my message out to my readers motivates me. From there, I find it requires self discipline to keep to my writing schedule. This can be especially challenging with all the other responsibilities that demand my attention. (I’m sure everyone can relate.) I continue to tweak my writing schedule as a result and do my best to establish boundaries.

10.  Do you write to make money, for the love of writing or both?

First and foremost, I write to share the messages about which I am passionate.

11.  What makes you proud about your involvement with Overcomers, Inc.?

I’m honored to have been invited to participate, and I’m blessed to be in the company of such an extraordinary group of authors.

12.  Will you write more books?

I will definitely keep writing. Whether or not my words continue to take their shape in book form remains to be seen. I tend to allow my instinct to be my guide as I stay open to recognizing the opportunities that appear on my path.

13.  What do you have in the works now? Still finishing my current book.

14.  What does the future hold for you and your books?

I plan to continue mentoring college students, guiding them through a meaningful transformation that brings with it the power to enjoy a dynamic and abundant life. It looks as if I will be sharing my message on the speaking circuit, an opportunity I’m excited to embrace.

15.  What makes this a book that other people MUST read and WHY?

I myself cannot wait to read Overcomers, Inc. At this point we authors have seen only tidbits of each others’ chapters. I’ve learned a great deal about my fellow authors during this process, but not read their actual submissions to the book. Based upon what I’ve learned at this point, this much I can tell you: this book is going to ROCK!

16.  What people NEED to read this book and WHY?

Anyone who desires an inspirational soul massage should read this book. Or present it as a gift to someone who does. Not only has each author overcome adversity in his/her life, but each one has a creative and unique way of sharing the story. I expect the process of reading Overcomers, Inc. will be quite the ride, complete with tears, angst, relief and, of course, laughter. As a result of experiencing the stories in this book, readers will find themselves empowered, inspired, and newly transformed.

17.  What sparks your creativity?

Any tips to help others spark their own creativity? Creativity comes from being passionate about your message and opening your heart and soul to inspiration. I think it helps to know that frustration can actually be a sign that you’re getting closer to reaching your goal. Then you realize that obstacles can actually open you up to your creative process rather than dragging you down.

18.  What do you think motivates people to become authors?

What motivated you to get into this unusual industry? Read my chapter in Overcomers, Inc. ?

19.  Tell me about the most unusual things you have done to promote any books?

I’m a newbie to book promotion. But I’m certainly learning that it helps
tremendously to have a committed and powerful team!

20. If a potential reader thinks that your book wouldn’t interest them, what would you say to convince them to buy?

I’m thinking something better than “Its the greatest book ever.” Give me something more specific :) I assume you’re talking about the Overcomers book here? None of us lives a life without adversity along the way. Just as we feel better chatting with our girlfriends about our ups and downs and commiserating in the process, Overcomers Inc. provides the same relief those chats give us. Only with Overcomers you’re getting the added dynamic of experts in overcoming adversity speaking right to you when you need it. It’s medicine for the soul. I can’t imagine a person alive – females especially – who will not find inspiration from the words on its pages.

    Hi Colleen,

Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with our co-author Lauren. Lauren shares her courageous battle with a medical condition in her chapter that is sure to inspire anyone who reads it.

Your chapter “Remember to Just Stop and Breath” is a touching story about your own challenges with your daughter and her battle with a condition called OMS. I know your story will be a comfort and inspiration to anyone who has ever faced adversity in the form of illness in a loved one.

    Warmly,
    Kimberly

Thanks for posting this Colleen. It’s good for prospective authors and writers to hear how others deal with their own issues with writing. Lauren is an inspirational person and her insight is clearly valuable – following our passion in life is truly a path to happiness and fulfillment. I am thankful she has created a business that relates to her special gifts and look forward to getting her book when it’s released in the spring. Once again it is fun to find out more about the authors I’ve been privileged to associate with for the Overcomers, Inc. book. Thanks again Collen!
