As a mom of a child receiving special services in NJ, I had a lot of questions on this request.  I reached to Disability Rights of NJ Outreach asking if they would be interested in answering a few questions on this topic.  They agreed!

Enhanced Learning Skills for Kids, LLC is hosting a teleseminar for New Jersey Parents of Children receiving special services from their school district.  The call will discuss the most recent request to disclosure of your child's student record – and more!

Ms. Mary Ciccone, the lead attorney from DRNJ on the litigation case was on the call to answer our questions. 

All participants received a PDF for further reference during the call.

On the call, we discussed the following:


1.         What is the lawsuit, DRNJ et al. v. DOE, about?

2.          What are the plaintiffs in the lawsuit seeking?

3.         Will this lawsuit specifically affect current children in special education?

4.         What is this FERPA notice with respect to this lawsuit?

5.         What personal information about children receiving special education services are the Plaintiffs seeking?

6.         Will children’s information be released publicly?

7.         Will signing the form or not signing the form affect a child’s placement or their special education services?

8.         What does signing the objection form and returning it to the DAG mean?

9.         Who can I contact if I have additional questions about the lawsuit?
